An informal exhibition of Dushanbe-based artists – a project conceived as a collective creative session and arranged in a floor-based installation. The exhibition space is shaped by the familiar format of academic reviews where artworks are placed on the floor; but here, this traditional format is reimagined as an unconventional by being used as a main principle of public program.
The artists posed questions about the meanings of the seemingly simple yet deeply complex word “home.” It is a strikingly paradoxical linguistic unit, in which a literal, material meaning effortlessly transforms into metaphor, slipping into poetry. A simple object becomes a vessel of meaning – a sacred and carefully preserved image of home, comfort, belonging, and kinship. It is remarkable how the vast, animated space of a home can compress into the size of a travel backpack, only to unfold again, blossoming into a new garden of memories.
As we settle into new spaces – new apartments, cities, and countries – we do not betray our sense of home. Again and again, in each new place, we recreate a familiar image; yet every iteration is unique, like a new experience, like a work of art.
